Overlook Farm Kicks Off First Annual Charity Event
United States Eventing Association, 8/24/2007
International eventing stable, Overlook Farm, took this past weekend off from a busy training schedule to host its first annual charity event for the Simple Changes Therapeutic Riding Center.
Guests were treated to a series of riding demonstrations preformed by Simple Changes students, which showcased their many accomplishments learned through therapeutic riding. In between classes, Overlook Farm's Sara Dierks impressed the crowd with upper level dressage and jumping performances, while husband Eric's commentary kept the crowd on their toes. Throughout the event guests enjoyed catering by Market Salamander of Middleburg, Virginia and Wellington, Florida, and an all-afternoon wine tasting with local vineyard, Naked Mountain Winery.
Following the riding demonstrations, celebrity chef and host of Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible," Robert Irvine, was on hand to present the awards to the Simple Changes riders. The event finished off with an impressive raffle to help raise money for Simple Changes. One lucky guest walked away with a basket including prizes such as a pair of Manolo Blahnik paddock boots, overnights stays at Middleburg's Red Fox Inn and Berryville's Battletown Inn, a vacation getaway courtesy of Sweet Escape Travel, and rounds of golf at Pinecrest Golf Course, to name a few.
Sara Dierks commented on the success of the event by stating, "Our goal was to raise awareness for not only the sport of eventing, but to illustrate the benefits of horsemanship through programs such as therapeutic riding. Public support is what keeps us all going and we were thrilled to open up our farm for such a great cause."
